Remembering 6th March 1915

I am certain that none of the individuals listed below could ever have believed that they would be destined to be forever united with each other. And yet they all share the unhappy distinction of losing their lives on the 6th March 1915, one hundred and one years ago today.

There is certainly a mixture of service and nationalities represented here: men of the regular army, men of the special reserve, Kitchener recruits, men from the Dominions. Of particular interest to me is Gefreiter Gustav Nowak of the German Army who is buried in the Ukamas cemetery in Namibia; an enemy of the allies but buried by and remembered by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Also dying on this day, Nursing Sister Louisa Jordan of the Scottish Women's Hospital who is buried in the Chela Kula Military Cemetery in Nis, Serbia (above).

By First World War standards, 6th March 1915 was a quiet day for the allies. Nevertheless, 128 men and one woman gave their lives this day and are remembered by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission from where the following list is taken.
